The Dashboard is the first screen you see after signing in, and it exists to answer one question before you have clicked anything: is there anything I should be telling my investors right now?

Current metrics

Your live figures (cash, burn, runway, revenue, headcount) as they stand in the systems you have connected. Nothing here is typed in, and nothing needs refreshing by hand. Each metric names the provider it came from, and can be expanded to show the individual inputs that produced it. Runway is the example worth understanding: it is not read from anywhere, it is derived from your cash position and your burn, so expanding it shows both of those and where each of them came from. When a number surprises you, that expansion is where you find out why. Two warnings can appear against a metric: Both are worth acting on before you send anything. A report assembled from a stale metric is accurate about the past and misleading about the present; see connect a data source for reconnecting. Small sparklines showing which way each metric has moved over recent periods. They are deliberately not precise: they exist so a direction catches your eye, not so you can read a value off them. For the values, expand the metric.

Reporting status

The panel that tells you where you stand with your investors: your last report, when it went, and the count of days since last report. That count is the most useful number on the page, and it is shown as a plain count rather than a status badge on purpose. There is no universal schedule for investor updates, so Vein does not tell you that forty days is late; it tells you it has been forty days and leaves the judgement to you and whatever you have agreed with your investors.

Notifications

Your notifications appear here as a panel on the Dashboard rather than behind a bell in the header. If you spend most of your time on the Reporting page, this is the only place you will see them, which is worth knowing before concluding that nobody has asked you for anything. See notifications for what triggers one and how to control which of them also reach your inbox.
